Coverage For TamiFlu

Coverage for TamiFlu During the Current Flu Season

Based on the recommendation of the Center For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) during the 2009 H1N1 Flu outbreak, Teamsters Rx Pharmacy is pleased to inform Northern New England Benefit Trust pharmacy members that during the current flu season, prescriptions for TamiFlu will be covered at a retail pharmacy only for a $50.00 co-pay. The prescription cannot be filled at the Teamsters Rx Mail-Order Pharmacy. TamiFlu is a medication that is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat influenza. Members are encouraged to follow the advice of the prescribing physician and treatment should start as soon as possible after the onset of symptoms and should be taken for five days. NNEBT members should take their TamiFlu prescription to any major retail pharmacy (except Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club), present their Teamsters Rx Pharmacy card and pay a $50.00 co-pay for up to ten doses of TamiFlu. As with any medication, members should educate themselves by seeking advice from their physician and use reputable websites such as the CDC (www.cdc.gov) or the FDA (www.fda.gov) as sources of information for any type of disease control. Another excellent website is flu.gov which has up-to-date information on the H1N1 and detailed advice concerning TamiFlu.
